What began as a high-school hobby for Geoff Carlisle is now a thriving business: JAMM Entertainment Services has become the largest company of it its kind in Alabama.

Over Twenty years ago, Geoff began hosting high school dances as a DJ. Today, he and his staff provide entertainment for hundreds of events including: weddings, bar mitzvahs, dances, promotions, and corporate functions.

The ability to successfully serve such a wide variety of markets differentiates JAMM from many of its competitors, who tend to focus on exclusive markets like weddings or schools. JAMM’s diverse, state-of-the-art equipment and dynamic, well-trained employees allow them the creative freedom to adapt their services precisely to whatever setting the client requests. While most of JAMM’s work consists of entertaining at parties and events with music and a DJ, the company also furnishes PA and lighting systems for promotional events for corporate clients such as ESPN, Clear Channel, Hyundai and many others.

JAMM’s true hallmark is its interactive DJ’s and MC’s. “Normally, a DJ will set up sound and lighting, then sit behind his table having little contact with the guests. But we’re in front of the table as much as the client will allow, doing activities and icebreakers from limbo to the chicken dance, whatever it may be to get people involved in the party,” Geoff explains. One of his most memorable jobs was a UAB-hosted international science event which included hundreds of guests who spoke almost no English. But once Geoff and his staff had four conga lines in motion, language barriers began to disappear. “Music became the common international language through which these people could interact,” Geoff recalls.
